Abigail Findlay

FOUNDER

HOMESCHOOL SUPPORT MANAGER

Specializing in Elementary and Middle School Math, Composition, and ELA

With a rich background of 22 years in teaching, including 15 years in private school education and roles in administration and as an Elementary school principal, I bring a wealth of experience to Franklin Tutoring. After retiring in 2013, I dedicated myself to private tutoring, focusing on remedial reading, basic math, composition, and language arts. My passion lies in assisting homeschooling families in the Franklin area, offering support in various subjects.

My journey in education, fueled by a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Early Elementary Education from Patriot University, has been a rewarding adventure. I am committed to helping each child achieve their best, finding immense joy in witnessing their ‘impossible’ become possible. Beyond teaching, I cherish moments with my family, explore new health trends, and enjoy marathon training.

My favorite subjects to teach are Composition (IEW), Basic Math, and Pre-Algebra. What drives me in tutoring is the opportunity to witness firsthand the growth and achievements of every child I work with.

Kimberly Powers

Master Tutor

ACT PREP COURSE MANAGER

HOMESCHOOL SUPPORT, MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL WRITING SPECIALIST

With a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Cedarville University, I bring over 20 years of diverse teaching experience. My passion for Language Arts has driven my career from 3rd to 8th grade classrooms and special needs education. I find joy in guiding students to express themselves through writing and storytelling.

After marrying my husband, Tim, I expanded my educational impact to leadership roles, including working with special needs students in Tennessee and advocating for teen girls through our non-profit.

When not teaching, I cherish family adventures with my husband and two boys, enjoy art, relaxing on the beach, and savoring a good cup of coffee. My favorite teaching areas are Writing, Grammar, Bible, and History. Tutoring for me is about connecting with students on a personal level, helping them discover and harness their unique strengths.

Joel Friedman

HIGH SCHOOL MATH MASTER TUTOR AND MANAGER

My passion for math tutoring began in 2000, after studying Math and Economics at UC Santa Barbara and earning a Secondary Math teaching credential from California State University, Northridge.

I spent over nine years as a high school math teacher in LA before moving to Nashville to follow my passion for music. And while I've stepped away from full-time classroom teaching, my dedication to math education continues through tutoring and substitute teaching.

I find a special joy in teaching upper-level high school math and beginning college-level math. As a tutor, I thrive on the opportunity to identify and address each student's unique challenges. The one-on-one setting not only lets me tailor my teaching methods, but also allows me to build a stronger connection with students and enhance their learning experience far beyond what's possible in the typical classroom environment.

Jacob Yarbrough

MATHEMATICS TUTOR

With a foundation in Christian Leadership and Leadership from William Jessup University, where I earned both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees, my educational journey has been enriched by formal training in life coaching through Western Seminary. In 2022, my wife Sami and I embraced a new chapter in middle Tennessee, where I currently contribute to Educational Media Foundation in data and workforce coordination.

Outside of my professional life, I have a deep love for country music, often attending concerts with Sami. Sports are a significant part of my life, with basketball and baseball being particular favorites. Fishing and the thrill of roller coasters also hold a special place in my leisure activities.

My passion for tutoring centers around mathematics. I find immense joy in guiding students through their academic challenges in math, helping them grow not just in their skills but also in their overall life perspective. Being a part of someone's journey in both math and life is incredibly fulfilling for me.

Amber Polak

Early Elementary Tutor

TNReady Course Manager

Early Elementary Reading/Math Specialist

I earned my BA in Elementary Education with a minor in psychology and a reading endorsement from the University of Iowa in 2011 and began an enriching journey in education.

I worked as a sub before teaching grades 1-4 in a mosque for two years, followed by a five-year tenure teaching 2nd grade in Phoenix. These experiences, especially in an urban school with large class sizes, honed my skills in differentiating lessons for diverse student needs and fueled my passion for creative and adaptive teaching.

My expertise extends to all elementary subjects through fifth grade, with a special love for engaging learners through innovative Kagan structures and promoting critical thinking. I excel in tailoring lessons to individual needs and fostering supportive small group dynamics.

As a mom of three under four, I balance a fulfilling family life with my desire to return to teaching.

Jodie Sweet

After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Georgia, I began my life-long teaching career. With over 15 years of traditional teaching in the public and private classroom setting, I developed a passion for individualized instruction and creativity to meet the needs of each young learner. I love connecting with my students and helping them feel valued, while empowering them to be curious learners who achieve their educational goals. In addition to the classroom setting, I have had over two decades of experience leading and teaching in Children’s ministry, Women’s ministry and discipleship, and short-term

International mission trips teaching men, women, & children. I currently teach ESL classes to refugee women in Nashville, and am passionate about connecting with

international families in our area. At home, I am a mom to 3 teenage daughters and a wife to my husband, Rob. I love to travel and explore new places, spend time with my family, and enjoy the outdoors. My experiences in and out of the classroom have opened my eyes to a variety of

people, cultures, and learning styles. I am most qualified to teach young learners in all subject areas, particularly in learning to read, write and basic math. I also love teaching the Bible, and challenging people in their faith journey. I count it a privilege to walk alongside families in whatever season they find themselves in, and my hope would be to care for and support each person along the way.

Jimmy Rowe

My passion for learning has always led me to share it with others through teaching. While completing my degree in Chemical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, I volunteered weekly at City of Refuge where I helped middle and high school students in Atlanta with a variety of assignments. I also taught my peers as a teaching assistant for an Earth Science lab course.

After working in both engineering and volunteer roles, I am now in graduate school pursuing a Master's in Data Science. In my spare time I have renewed my desire to teach through online tutoring. I have experience teaching high school and collegiate math, general science courses, and ACT test prep. I enjoy making these subjects accessible to students through real life examples and a variety of visual, written, and auditory material.

My personal hobbies are centered around the outdoors. I enjoy hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, etc. If I get stuck in my home or tent due to bad weather, I enjoy curling up with a good book.

Our clients love working with us

We have benefited greatly from Franklin Tutoring and educational support. Homeschooling for the first time, they gave us curriculum guidance, helped me organize the kid’s work for the week, in addition to tutoring and encouraging my kids. One of the things I love best about these tutors is their exceedingly positive attitude. They have reminded me there are no insurmountable problems and have a genuine interest in seeing my kids succeed. I feel incredibly lucky to have found them.

Mary C., Homeschool Mother of 6

Our daughter’s love of writing could not be fulfilled in the classroom. She wanted/needed more and we finally found the perfect fit. It’s been such an amazing experience working with Kimberly and the one-on-one story building and encouragement she is providing. Our daughter is learning and growing so much in her writing and enjoying every minute. Thank you Franklin Tutoring!

Franklin Tutoring is the real deal. Our tutor adapts to each child’s strengths and weaknesses and gets the best results EVERY time. Because of her, we can live more full lives. We can relax knowing our kids are some of the brightest in their respective ages/grades. This brings peace and harmony to us and allows us to get on with the most important part of being a family: enjoying and loving each other.

Jessica W., Homeschool Mother of 5

Franklin Tutoring has been tutoring my kids for 5 years and has been an irreplaceable asset to my homeschooling success! As a mom of 7, I’m pulled in so many directions. With our tutor’s help my kids are introduced to their material for the week in Math & Grammar, she provides a weekly work plan for them and holds all of my kids accountable for completing the work and grades it. We have stayed on track thanks to her! Her love of teaching and the kids she works with is evident and a gift to us as her clients.

Kristi B., Homeschool Mother of 7

At all times I have found Abigail to be dependable, reliable, hard-working, conscientious, honest, peace-loving, courteous, and to be as helpful as possible. There was a lot of variation in our schedule and Abigail was always willing to work with us on the changes that took place.

We had a unique situation that required me to travel about 200 days a year and it was nearly impossible for me to find someone that could do all the things that Abigail was able and willing to do. We were very blessed to have her here during this time.

Steve S.

Franklin Tutoring has helped all 4 of my children with a variety of material from written expression to math. Abigail has the perfect formula of content knowledge, fun and compassion to engage each and improve their skills.
